Deliverables to the European Commission
& 6th General Assembly
In February, we successfully delivered six key project deliverables to the European Commission for the SafeNav project phase.
Reaffirming our commitment to advancing maritime navigation technology.
Additionally, we hosted the 6th General Assembly in Athens, Greece
The 6th GA was hosted by Danos Shipping company in Athens, Greece. The GA’s serve as a meeting that allows us as partners to connect and align on where the project is and collaborate on ways to solve any potential blockers.
We went through all open work packages and tasks within the work packages, allowing everyone to give their input. We have 15 upcoming deliverables of which we are on track to be complete on time.
The DFM (data fusion module) has been implemented into the SafeNav system and will continue to be updated. In the GA we touched on the testing in real life for this module, that is planned for May/June 2025.
The GA is also a handy opportunity to go through our list of KPI’s on which we are making solid progress. We will be putting even more focus on this in the coming months as the project is moving over to a company and product phase.
As we are reaching the tipping point from Project to Product, this led us to the MVP (minimum viable product) and its current state. We have a now working product that is being demonstrated to end users, It is an ever-evolving product, so testing and changes are being made to the two main products on a weekly basis.
We allowed all the partners to present potential funding opportunities that may be applicable to SafeNav. This was a fruitful discussion as we were able to identify a several private and public funding opportunities for SafeNav.
The ramping up of the testing on the Genoa navigation simulator was discussed as well as what will be needed for this. This will also lead to the testing on vessels, which will take place towards the end of April / early May. This is organized and lead by Global Maritime Services and in cooperation with University of Genoa.
Three young Navigators from a Greek maritime academy had a meeting with our Founder Capt. Jorgen Grindevoll as SafeNav were presented and valuable discussions and feedback followed. A special thanks to the young Navigator Dimitris Smetis for organizing the meeting and giving good inputs for how the new generation of seafarers are open to such new technologies.
A feature corporation with the young navigators from Greece is planned for the next months and Capt. Jorgen highlights that its today´s youth that will be the once that will use the products on SafeNav into the future.
The General Assembly strengthened our industry positioning and reinforced the alignment of SafeNav with real-world maritime needs.
Workshops and Certification: Advancements with DNV and SAYFR
Certification with DNV:
We have together with Sayfr AS, initiated the certification process with DNV for SafeNav’s COLREG module, a critical step in ensuring widespread industry adoption.
Impact Assessment with SAYFR & Greenov:
Multiple workshops have been conducted to assess SafeNav’s impact in compliance with the dedicated work package nr. 9 (Impact of the SafeNav technology).
Upcoming Workshop in Oslo:
Further evaluations will take place in collaboration with SAYFR in the end of March to continue mapping SafeNav’s role in maritime safety enhancement and its social and environmental impact. Another important topic is that Sayfr AS has been selected by SafeNav Limited as the training provider of the SafeNav system and the workshop will also include the training development topic.

These engagements are crucial for expanding SafeNav’s visibility, credibility, and investment prospects.
Educational Outreach: Engaging Future Navigators
SafeNav has been actively introduced at leading academic institutions, reinforcing its role in preparing the next generation of maritime professionals.
Istituto Tecnico Trasporti e Logistica - Livorno, Italy: SafeNav team test pilot represented by Pietro Delfino presented the system to navigation students, demonstrating its interface and decision support system. The students were highly engaged, asking numerous questions and showing great enthusiasm for the technology. This interaction is a key part of our effort to introduce next-generation maritime professionals to the future of Digital and AI-driven navigation and decision support systems, This event was supported by Global Maritime Services (GMS)
University of Genoa: Our colleague, Associate Professor Michele Martelli, led several outreach sessions, engaging with students from the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering programs and have presented SafeNav technology and familiarization of in total 80 students and this shows that SafeNav remains committed to fostering education and ensuring that future maritime professionals are equipped with cutting-edge navigation technologies.
