SAFENAV PROJECT PROGRESS – JUNE 2023
SafeNav Project Team members, Michele Martelli of Università degli Studi di Genova and Srdan Zuskin of University of Rijeka, Faculty of Maritime Studies, after presenting their research results during TransNav2023.
In June, the SafeNav Project leaders attended one of the industry’s largest conferences, Nor-Shipping 2023, in Oslo, Norway. Nor-Shipping 2023 provided the Project leaders the opportunity to share the Project vision and the immense potential of enhanced safer navigation at sea and autonomous shipping level 1 with new connections. The active conference season consisted of SafeNav Project leaders also attending the Autonomous Ship Expo and Conference in Amsterdam and the Mediterranean Maritime Forum in Cyprus.
The SafeNav Project Team, represented by Michele Martelli of University of Genova (UNIGE) and Srdan Zuskin of the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Maritime Studies (UNIRI), also successfully presented their research results during TransNav 2023 Conference in Gdynia, Poland. The research paper presented is titled 'A COLREGs-Compliant Decision Support Tool to Prevent Collisions at Sea' and can be read online on the conference’s official website.

The Coordination Team, Work Packages Leaders, and Consortium Partners continue working collaboratively to achieve the Project milestones.
The ambition of the three-year maritime project is to develop and test a highly innovative Collision Prevention Solution that will significantly reduce the probability of collisions and groundings, thereby enhancing safer navigation at sea for an existing and new generation of vessels that aim for remote operation or autonomously in the future.
